SwapiClub follows the Protection of Personal Information Act (POPIA) in South Africa. We handle your personal information responsibly, use it only to run the app, and give you clear ways to ask us about it.
We process the personal information needed to run a swap marketplace: your email and display name to create your account, your listings and offers so trades can happen, your messages so you can arrange a deal, and approximate location so we can show you how far away an item is. We don't collect more than we need to provide the service.
We collect personal information for clear reasons, use it only for those reasons, and keep it secure. We rely on running the service you signed up for, your consent where it applies (such as location), and our legitimate interest in keeping the community safe from fraud and abuse.
We do not sell your personal information. We share limited information only with the service providers that make the app work, such as our hosting and authentication provider (Google Firebase) and our in-app purchase provider (RevenueCat), and only to the extent they need it to provide their service to us. We do not share your exact location with other users.
We keep your information for as long as your account is active and for a reasonable period afterwards. Where an account is blocked or banned, or where a report has been made, we may keep the related information longer so that we can enforce our rules, prevent the same person from simply making a new account, and meet any legal obligations.
We use reasonable technical and organisational measures to protect your information, including access controls and restricted database rules. No system is perfect, but we take care to reduce risk.
Under POPIA you have the right to ask us to show you the personal information we hold about you, to correct it if it's wrong, and to ask us to delete it. You also have the right to object to certain processing and to complain to the Information Regulator.
You can delete your account yourself at any time from your profile settings — open Edit Profile and choose "Delete my account." This removes your personal data, while records that involve another person (such as a chat or completed swap) are kept but anonymised, and some records may be retained where the law requires it or to keep the community safe.
For a copy of your data, a correction, or any other POPIA request, contact us using the details below. We handle these directly so we can confirm the request is really coming from you and check what we are allowed to keep.
When someone reports your listing or account, the information about that report is kept for as long as needed to apply our rules and protect the community. This is part of our legitimate interest in running a safe platform. We do not reveal who reported you.
Our Information Officer is responsible for how SwapiClub handles personal information. To make a POPIA request, ask a question, or raise a concern, contact:
You can also reach us through Contact us in the app, and we'll route your request to the right person.
If you believe we've mishandled your personal information and we haven't resolved it, you have the right to lodge a complaint with the Information Regulator of South Africa.
